Transformation takes root in the mind and grows in the community.

At Vikara, transformation isn’t a trend – it’s a process we actively pursue. It is based on the belief that sustainable development can be achieved in harmony with a healthy environment. With this mindset as our starting point, we explore the question of how we want to live, build and do business in the future.

The result is a series of unique, courageous and inspiring projects that show how vision becomes reality – namely through consistent action and a willingness to break new ground. From the renaturation of entire landscapes to autonomous living models, we create spaces in which people and nature are in balance once more.

Afforestation and renaturation – nature as the basis of all life

What was once a depleted monoculture of eucalyptus is now a living ecosystem. Together with local people in Thailand, a eucalyptus plantation was cleared, the roots excavated and the area reforested with native tree species.
Eucalyptus is economically valuable, but problematic on an ecological level. Monocultures displace other plants, are sensitive to pests, leach the soil and are virtually unusable as a habitat for animals. Our aim: to replace the artificial system with a natural one that is diverse, sustainable and in harmony with people’s needs.
More than 3,000 trees, including many fruit trees, were planted and cultivated together with a local elementary school. The result is a diverse, beautiful rainforest that stops soil erosion, restores the ecological balance, stabilises the water supply and promotes biodiversity via sustainable means.
This project goes beyond afforestation; it is a collaborative process. The local people have made the forest their own. Today, it is a habitat for animals, a source of food and a symbol of what is possible when responsibility is shared. Transformation here means not only preserving but actively improving what is already there.

An autonomous community – rethinking how we live, work and build

A unique experiment was carried out on our nine-hectare property in Thailand: a self-sufficient, autonomous community that shows how life can function beyond the limits of traditional systems. Here, the approach is always based on circularity: self-sufficient food, water and energy sources, and buildings constructed largely from recycled materials – able to be dismantled in full and free from harmful substances wherever possible.
The architecture follows a principle rather than a standard: maximum quality of life based on minimum consumption of resources. Spacious living areas, natural air conditioning, materials with history – every building is part of a larger whole. Nature reclaims spaces, takes over and integrates the settlement fully into its surroundings.
There is also a new approach to cohabitation, in that decisions are only made when 100% consensus is reached. In this regard, community means genuine equality – regardless of function or status. This project is our answer to the question of what sustainable building, housing and living might look like in the future.

New projects in the planning stage

We are looking for visionary partners with whom to work on joint transformation projects.
Transformation does not come about on its own, but through dialogue with people who share our visions. This is why we are seeking people, companies and investors who are willing to break new ground and experiment with us. Partners who don’t just invest, but who are willing to contribute ideas, help shape the future and take on responsibility. If you would like to explore new initiatives, please contact us.
